Tips for making your felt ball garland
Our standard felt balls are 1", but our felted shapes will vary in size. Before you begin, decide how long (in inches) you'd like your finished garland to be. Then decide the spacing you want in between balls.
Estimate the number of balls you will need:
12 inches of garland with no space between balls = 12 balls
12 inches of garland with 1-inch space between balls = 6 balls
12 inches of garland with 2-inch space between balls = 4 balls
If you are also using felted shapes, add those sizes in as well.
For example, a 4 foot garland with no space between balls would require 48 balls.
Start your garland
To start, cut your floss or twine to your desired length, leaving about two feet on either end to tie a loop for hanging.
One cut, make a knot about two feet from the end of your garland. Thread your needle and push it through your first felt ball. Feel free to use a thimble to help guide the needle through.
Continue to thread your balls and shapes onto the floss to create your desired pattern. Remember to stop two feet from the end of your floss or twine.
If you are spacing out your balls, I recommend tying a knot on either side of each ball or shape to prevent it from sliding.
Finish your garland
Once you have finished threading all of your balls onto your garland, it's time to tie the loops at each end. Feel free to make the loops smaller if you desire and trim the excess.
